Casten Secures $14.7 Million in Federal Funding for IL-06 as Part of House Democrats’ INVEST in America Act, Passed Today

Downers Grove, Illinois – Today, U.S. Congressman Sean Casten (IL-06) announced that $14.7 million in transportation funding projects for Illinois' 6th Congressional district was included in the 5-year federal surface transportation legislation, the INVEST in America Act, passed by the House today. The legislation proposes transformational investments in our roads, bridges, transit, rail, and wastewater and drinking water infrastructure to modernize our infrastructure, create jobs, and reduce carbon pollution. The bill puts some of the key pieces of President Biden's infrastructure vision into legislative text.

"Whether you drive, bike, or walk, federal investments to improve safety, reduce traffic, and make it easier for folks to get their kids to school will have a lasting impact on families and small businesses in our community," said Rep. Sean Casten. "I'm proud to have fought for and secured $14.7 million in transportation funding Illinois 6th district in the package passed by the House today—moving us one step closer to ensuring our community has what we need to improve our roads, bridges, and bike paths while lowering our carbon footprint."

With this bill, House Democrats took a crucial step towards putting the United States on the right track to modernize our transportation system, restore global competitiveness, and create economic opportunity in the 21st century and beyond.

Critically, this legislation will also put the United States on a path toward zero emissions in the transportation sector by providing historic investments in transit, rail, electric vehicle charging, and alternative modes of transportation. The transportation bill passed by the House today includes $343 billion for roads, bridges, and safety, $109 billion for public transportation, $95 billion on passenger and freight rail.

"No one enjoys getting caught in traffic, or when a delayed train makes you late for work," Rep. Casten said. "Investments in commuter rail, roads, and bridges are a top priority for folks in our community, and the 69% increase in transportation investments will lower our carbon footprint, reduce time spent stuck in traffic, and benefit Illinoisans for decades to come."
